Report on the situation in Belarus by the UN High Commissioner for Human Rights. Briefing on 4 December 2020 at 4 pm (CET).

On December 4 UN High Commissioner for Human Rights Ms. Michelle Bachelet will present an interim oral update on the human rights situation in Belarus.

On 18 September 2020 the Human Rights Council held an Urgent Debate on the human rights situation in Belarus and adopted the Resolution, entitledSituation of human rights in Belarus in the run-up to the 2020 presidential election and in its aftermath”. The resolution requested the UN High Commissioner for Human Rights to “monitor closely the situation of human rights in Belarus in the context of the 2020 presidential election, to present to the Human Rights Council, before the end of 2020, an interim oral update on that situation, with recommendations, to be followed by an interactive dialogue…”

On 4 December 2020 at 4:00 p.m. Geneva time (CET), International Expert Group (IEG) of the Belarusian-Swiss association RAZAM.ch will host a Briefing on the results of the oral update and ensuing interactive dialogue. English-Russian simultaneous interpretation will be provided during the event.
